Long lists of flora and fauna

[edit]

Long lists, and especially in Latin, are not art of Wikivoyage's style, so is there a good way to summarize those lists and concentrate on the key general points and highlights? Ikan Kekek (talk) 01:47, 28 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Well, I think Ground Zero imported the article from Wikipedia, which had long species lists. We've worked on cutting it down somewhat, and I'll do some more work on replacing the Latin with English. Selfie City (talk) 15:53, 28 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Usable article yet?

[edit]

Is this page a usable article yet? There are no blank sections anymore. Selfie City (talk) 20:59, 28 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Is Guadalupe Island usable yet?

[edit]

Moved from User talk:Ground Zero

For a start, an article's ranking does not change automatically, does it? In that case, as all the sections of the Guadalupe Island article are filled in, should it be changed to "usable" status? Selfie City (talk) 16:41, 29 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

  • I'm not the one to ask about this. I don't pay attention to article status when I'm reading articles, do I haven't paid attention to how an article gets classified, but you're right that it is a manual, discretionary process. I think you can just change the status yourself and see if anyone objects. You've done a great job with the article. It looks so much better than the crude cut-and-paste I started with. Thanks. Selfie City - Guadalupe Island is not only clearly Usable, but well on its way to Guide status. If you haven't already, see Wikivoyage:City guide status for an explanation of the difference between the various statuses. -- AndreCarrotflower (talk) 20:02, 29 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
I've moved this from my talk page so others can comment. Ground Zero (talk) 20:18, 29 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
Thanks AndreCarrotflower and Ground Zero. I've also noticed a similar situation with Pleasanton, an article which was quite small until I contributed to it recently. It now has 50,000+ bytes but is still just "usable". I haven't contributed to Berkeley, but if I remember rightly it is about 80,000 bytes and is also not very high-classed.
I've been studying Google Maps Satellite to find old roads, boat slips, and other things on Guadalupe Island, and hopefully I can learn more about the place by contributing. Once again, thanks for your help. Selfie City (talk) 20:23, 29 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Shouldn't we mention Wikipedia?

[edit]

The "understand" section largely comes from Wikipedia, so don't we need to give credit, and how? Selfie City (talk) 03:46, 30 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

The first edit summary in this article's history gives a reference. That's good enough. See the end of this page. Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:28, 30 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
Got it. Selfie City (talk) 15:28, 30 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
