Deep East Texas is in the Piney Woods of Texas, to the north and east of Houston.

  • 1 Huntsville — has several sites related to Texas hero, General Sam Houston, who lived here
  • 2 Lufkin — has a zoo and a couple of museums
  • 3 Jasper — there's fishing and boating on the Sam Rayburn Reservoir
  • 4 Nacogdoches — the oldest city in the state
  • 5 San Augustine — site of Spanish mission on the El Camino Real de los Tejas
  • 6 The Woodlands — a suburban bedroom community of Houston that hosts the Houston Symphony during the summer
